On Saturday, March 8, NCEED’s Walter Fields served as a symposium panelist to commemorate the 35th Anniversary of the 1990 Student Protest that took place at Morgan State University. This event is part of an initial effort to document the history of student activism at the university and how student advocates have been essential to the university’s survival and growth.
Mr. Fields, who served as the Student Government Association Chief of Staff during the 1990 event, spoke of SGA’s protests in response to the planned merger of Morgan State with the University of Maryland system. Additionally, Morgan State alumnus and Maryland Public Television Vice President for Content Travis Mitchell screened his documentary about the protests, 6 Days of Determination, for session attendees.
This important history sheds light on what it took to get to the Morgan State University of today.
