On May 2nd, NCEED assisted Morgan State University president, Dr. David K. Wilson, welcoming second grade students from Southwest Leadership Academy of Philadelphia to the campus. Accompanying the students were Academy Principal Christina Green, CEO Ms. Leigh Purnell, and several teachers. The president invited the students to be his guest after viewing their Black History Month presentation highlighting Morgan State University. The school was not able to attend NCEED’s Young Scholars Day, so the Office of the President arranged a special visit. President Wilson addressed the students in the Regents Board Room in Richardson Library and was accompanied by his leadership team, Dr. Glenda Prime, Dean of the School of Education and Urban Studies, Dr. Don-Terry Veal, Vice President of Government Relations, Dr. Kara Turner, Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success, Ms. Kim McCalla, Vice President Facilities Design and Construction, and Ms. Armada Grant, Special Assistant to the President. After hearing from President Wilson, NCEED’s Walter Fields led the students on a tour of the campus and accompanied the group to lunch in Thurgood Marshall Dining Hall. One of the founders of Southwest Leadership Academy is the former mayor of Philadelphia and Morgan State alumnus, the Hon. Wilson Goode.
